A red warm scarf from Alpaca yarn

Red Warm Shawl from Alpaca YarnWhen a knitter knows that she has to go to a birthday soon then there is little thought. She grabs her knitting needles, finds the pattern she has been itching to knit, digs out a gorgeous red alpaca yarn from her yarn closet and starts to knit a warm scarf. The kind of scarf you can use during the chilly summer evenings or take it around in the winter to feel cozy in front of the fireplace. After couple of weeks, just in time for the birthday the scarf was ready. And as usual there just does not seem to be a perfect moment for taking pictures. So the pictures here sadly don’t do justice to the scarf, I will try to be better at organizing my time at the future so I will have plenty of time for pictures and can present the scarves as they should be presented.

But at the mean time here are the details of the scarf
Yarn: Lamana Piura Baby Alpaca Yarn
Color: Red
Dimensions: 180 x 90 cm
Needles: 2,75; 3,5 and 5

And here is the scarf hanging at my home from an apple tree couple of hours before the birthday girl got it. Unfortunately one of my children got sick on the same day and I had to stay home, but the others were able to go.

Beaded natural white scarf for a bride

Beaded Lace Scarf for Bride I thought that at the end of November everybody is already thinking about Christmas and therefore I was surprised when I received a scarf order. And what an order it was! A beaded scarf for a bride. I had used beads before but only in small projects like ring bearer pillows and hair flowers, I knew that the methods I was using for these two things were too time consuming for a large project. So I dived into YouTube and found a suitable method for a large project (just type “dental floss beads lace” into YouTube if you are curious) where I wouldn’t have to chase beads around and at the same time the end result would still look good. I just substituted the dental floss with a slender needle.

I used the same natural white 100% wool yarn that is so soft that people have hard time believing that it is actually 100% wool and not something else such as merino. The yarn also holds form beautifully after blocking and is very warm. The beads are clear with silvery insides and they shimmer in the light but do not dominate over the shawl, just compliment it elegantly.

The scarf itself has a lily of the valley pattern and is triangular. But I will only show parts of it today and keep the whole scarf a secret. Hopefully I will be able to someday show the scarf where it belongs – on the shoulders of a beautiful bride

I just love the way the beads are in the nupps and bring a slight elegant shimmer to the shawl. Don’t you?

Bridal Wrap for Flower Loving Bride

Light Blue Flower Field Bridal Scarf by Artanis Wedding Lace Today was a very fun day. I handed my camera to my husband and asked him to take pictures of me. I got several new scarves and shawls that needed documenting and we did get pictures of all of them but I’ll only show you the one today – the bridal wrap with flower field pattern. To see the other shawls and scarves you need to either have some patience or look through old posts (I will put some new pictures up to the appropriate posts).

But let me introduce the flower field bridal wrap. I wrote about knitting it in spring (and showed you a sneak peek) while explaining that I’m knitting it with light blue yarn because my favorite flowers are blue – cornflower and anemone hepatica. The scarf is the biggest thing I have knitted so far and also the most traditional as these kind of big scarves are the ones that the women in Haapsalu started knitting in the second quarter of the 19th century.

The final measurements are about 130×130 cm (51×51 inches)

Here you can see nicely what the traditional parts of a Haapsalu scarf are. The body in the center is surrounded by a wide border that is separated from both the body and the lace edge by narrow garter stitch borders

This is the flower field pattern in the center. It is from the book “The Haapsalu Scarf” by Aime edasi and Siiri Reimann.

Here you can see the border pattern also from the book “The Haapsalu Scarf” and the lace edge that I modified myself to match the other patterns.

When looked at a right angle the nupps (bobbles) really stand out.

Sofia scarf – a modern scarf for a young lady

Sofia Scarf Knitted Lace Scarf by Artanis Wedding Lace
This year a young lady graduated from high school and we were also invited to her graduation ceremony. What does a knitter do when she needs a present for someone – knits 🙂 After consulting with her mother I picked a modern interpretation of a traditional Haapsalu shawl pattern. It is the traditional Sofia scarf pattern but it is narrower and edge is only on two sides. The inspiration came from Sofia scarf by Irina Haller in Ravelry but I did it a bit wider than in that pattern. And here is the result, the young lady was very happy with it.

Lacy Alpaca Scarf – Secret Knitting vol5

Mustrimaailma Pitsiline salakudumine 2015

There is a secret knitting going on at www.mustrimaailm.net an Estonian forum for knitters and crocheters. This time the theme is a lacy scarf.

And here is the scarf finally finished 🙂

You can see the scarf after the first clue HERE
After the second clue HERE
And after the third clue HERE
And after the fourth clue HERE

The last clue was given on the 10th of June and after that there was a bit of knitting, blocking and here I am with the final result.

Yarn: Lamana Piura 00 (white)
Needles size 3

I have got to say that I do like the yarn, it is suitable for bit warmer shawls and it holds the form nicely if you knit it the right way (in this scarf I followed the pattern but if I would knit the same scarf again I would change the pattern a bit so that the edge would hold better). I will definitely use the same yarn again, and recommend it to all who need a shawl/scarf for colder times of the year. I also have some red Lamana Piura and can’t wait to find a pattern to knit with it.

The next two pictures are taken by my son who is seven years old. We took them by the peony because to me the pattern reminded me of them and when there was a vote on what the name of the scarf should be then it turned out that others saw flowers too because the name of the secret knitting shawl became Tiina lilleaed (Tiina’s flower garden; Tiina is the author of the pattern). The pattern is now available in Ravelry.
